LIVING SACRIFICE
- Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
We ought to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1). Jesus is the only way for you to receive blessings. Surrender yourself to the Lord saying, "Lord Jesus, not my will but let Your will be fulfilled in my life. I surrender myself to You so that I can receive whatever job You have for me, the life partner You have chosen for me, the house You desire that I should live in, the anointing You have for me and all the other blessings You have in store for me. Lead me according to Your will. Whatever goodness You have decided to give me, Your child, please give it to me. Let the plan of Jesus who offered Himself as a sacrifice for me, be fulfilled in my life. Let my Heavenly Father rejoice over my prosperity. For that to happen I surrender my life into Your holy hands as a living sacrifice.
What happens when you offer yourself to God? Before Jesus took up the cross He travailed in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane all alone. When He thought about His death on the cross according to the plan of His Father, His heart broke.
With great anguish He cried, "Father! If You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will but Yours be done." He prayed earnestly for His Father's will to be fulfilled in His life. His agony was so great that His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Then an angel of God appeared from heaven to help Him. But still He was not comforted (Luke 22: 42-44).
Finally the Holy Spirit filled Him. It was then Jesus Christ surrendered Himself to the will of His Father saying, "Father, not My will, but let Your will be done in My life. I know it is the path of the cross which would separate Me from all. But it would make Me cling on to You only. So I surrender Myself to Your plan."
Many years ago the Holy Spirit graciously enabled my father to witness that scene in his spirit. In that he saw the devil standing near Jesus and rejoicing because he thought that Jesus would never surrender Himself to the plan of God.
He was very sure that Jesus would go against the will of God. But the very moment Jesus told His Father, "Not My will, let Your will be done", the devil fell to the ground crying, "I am defeated". Then Jesus got up having been strengthened. He went and stood boldly before Pilate, Herod and the Roman soldiers. According to the plan of His Father, He went boldly to the cross.
Finally having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them triumphing over them on the cross (Colossians 2:14-15). He who lived on this earth as an ordinary man rose up from the dead on the third day as the Lord of lords and the King of kings (Romans 8:34) Jesus Christ is the King of kings. That is why at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Philippians 2:10).
The same thing shall happen to you also. Today when you surrender yourself to God, "Oh Lord, I surrender myself to Your will", the devil who is tormenting you shall fall like lightning (Luke 10:18). Then the breath of the ruthless, the intensity of the disease and the power of the curse shall die (Isaiah 25:4, 5). You who have surrendered yourself to the will of God shall rise up to be exalted by the power of the resurrected Jesus.
Prayer:
Our loving heavenly Father
Every moment of my life help me to place myself in Your altar as a living sacrifice. May I always die to 'self' and live to fulfill Your will in my life. You are my everything and You are my all. I prostrate at Your feet and thank You from the bottom of my heart for all Your goodness, mercy, kindness, favour and every form of blessings I have received thus far and I am going to receive in future. Help me to walk always guided by the instruction given by the Holy Spirit and not follow the instructions of the carnal mind. On this day bless all my efforts and make me happy.
In the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ I pray.
Amen.
