HONOUR GOD'S WORD

- Sis. Stella Dhinakaran

The Dhinakarans

In the Old Testament period when king David was looking for a place to keep the ark of the Lord, the family of Obed-Edom spontaneously came forward with godliness to keep it in their house. The ark of the Lord which was kept in the house of Obed-Edom contained the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant (Hebrews 9:4).

Probably they would have kept it in a separate room for three months and protected it with godliness without allowing anyone to enter that room. It is stated in the Bible that, "A faithful man will abound with blessings" Proverbs 28:20. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). He is a living God who gives us richly all things to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17). The Lord watched over the faithfulness of Obed-Edom and hence blessed him and his household in an abundant measure (2 Samuel 6:11).

When Israelites left Egypt, God led them to Canaan. However, they murmured against God that they didn't have food and meat to eat. Since they were very special in the sight of God, He granted them Manna (bread), the food of the angels from heaven (Exodus 16:4).

What is Manna? Jesus proclaimed, "I am the bread of life" (John 6:33, 35). He who is the bread of life offered Himself as a supreme sacrifice on the cross for us. Manna also has another meaning which is "the word of God." There is life in His word (John 6:63; Hebrews 4:12).

What is the word? The Bible says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). So in our day-to-day life when we honour His word and read it sincerely as well as keep it in our heart, we receive the life granted by Him.

My mother as soon as she gives birth to a child she would immediately buy a Bible for that child. It was her desire that when her children learnt to read they must read only the Bible first. She honoured the Bible so much. That is why the Lord granted His life in an abundant measure to all her four children particularly to me.

Dear Friend, the word of God is sweeter than honey. Jeremiah says that when he found them he ate them and they brought joy and rejoicing to his heart. The Bible says that everyone who reads the word of God is not only blessed but that person is like a tree planted by the rivers of waters (Psalm 1:3).

The Lord says that He shall honour those who honour His word in such a way (1 Samuel 2:30). The Lord shall grant His abundant prosperity to those who seek Him faithfully. So cling on to Him firmly. Then He shall never let you down.

Where do you lack in seeking Him faithfully? Have you treated the word of God with scant respect? Confess your sins to the Lord, humble yourself and take a decision to read and meditate the Scripture faithfully from today onwards. Then the Lord shall come nearer to you and bless you abundantly.

Prayer:

Almighty God,

On this day, give me the grace to love You, honour Your Word and abide by the Word. I believe that the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart and that there is no creature hidden from Your sight, but all things are naked and open to Your eyes and that I must give account to You alone. I trust that by searching the Scripture we find eternal life because the Scripture testifies about Your only begotten Son. For the bread of God is Jesus Christ who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. Give me the grace to be faithful that I may abound with Your blessings.

In Your matchless name I pray.

Amen.
