FISHERS OF MEN
FISHERS OF MEN Mark 1:17 (The Message) "Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work. Jesus said to them, "Come with me. I'll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I'll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass (fish variety)" They didn't ask questions. They dropped their nets and followed." This command is not specifically given to the Apostles only. All the disciples of Christ are commissioned to announce the good news of salvation in ways and means available to them, according to their status of life. A christian is a follower of Christ and hence becomes His disciple. God will reward us in Heaven based on how sincerely and successfully we worked for bringing souls to Christ. itfhrp khjk; 29k; jpfjp

YOUR MISERY IS SEEN
YOUR MISERY IS SEEN- Sis. Stella Dhinakaran
Hagar, the maid of Sarah, the wife of Abraham got an opportunity to become the wife of Abraham. However, she became proud and began to ignore her mistress. On account of her attitude, she was chased out of the house by Sarah and had to wander in wilderness. An angel of God met Hagar who was in a hopeless condition having been forsaken by men and comforted her saying, "You are now with a child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery." Having heard this good tidings Hagar's heart was filled with joy. She thought, "There is a God who sees me. Although people forsake me, He would never forsake me." She who thought that her life had come to an end was thrilled to hear about the divine blessings which were in store for her through the angel of God. She shed tears of joy. She rejoiced saying, "You are a God who sees me." Her agony came to an end that day (Genesis 16:1-16) |

Elijah set out, and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, "Please, let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and I will follow you." Elijah answered, "Go back! Have I done anything to you?" Elisha left him and, taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Then he left and followed Elijah as his attendant.
Responsorial Psalm R. (see 5a) You are my inheritance, O Lord. Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge; I say to the LORD, "My Lord are you." O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you it is who hold fast my lot. R. You are my inheritance, O Lord. I bless the LORD who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. R. You are my inheritance, O Lord. Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices, my body, too, abides in confidence; Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world, nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.R. You are my inheritance, O Lord. Gospel Each year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety." And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them;and his mother kept all these things in her heart |

Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. I will lead them out from among the peoples and gather them from the foreign lands; I will bring them back to their own country and pasture them upon the mountains of Israel in the land's ravines and all its inhabited places. In good pastures will I pasture them, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing ground. There they shall lie down on good grazing ground, and in rich pastures shall they be pastured on the mountains of Israel. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, shepherding them rightly. Responsorial Psalm R. (1) The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. He guides me in right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage. R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come. R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Reading 2 Brothers and sisters: The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then, since we are now justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Gospel Jesus addressed this parable to the Pharisees and scribes: "What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance." |
REMINDING GOD OF HIS PROMISES
REMINDING GOD OF HIS PROMISES "But you did say, 'I will make sure that you are prosperous and that your descendants will be as many as the grains of sand on the seashore. No one will be able to count them because there are so many." Gen.32:12 The Bible says that we should petition God for all our needs. God knows all our needs even before they arise and even before we ourselves became aware of them. Then why does God want us to make our petitions known to him ? Moreover the Word says that we should remind God of His promises in the Bible whenever we petition Him. Is God like human beings, forgetful ?.It is just that God wants us to be ever mindful of him for our own good.We should constantly depend on God and meditate on God's nature and qualities, which wil help us to increase our love and affection for him. This attitude on our part towards God will strenghten our faith level and sustain us in our spiritual journey. This spiritual journey is ultimately aimed in attaining everlasting life with God. God is love and provides for all our needs at the right time.We should not worry or be anxious. We are expected to trust God and perform our duties to the best of our ability. God will prosper our efforts and giv us the success according to His promise. itfhrp khjk; 28k; jpfjp

THE SECRET OF SUCCESS
THE SECRET OF SUCCESS John 15:5 "Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing." 2Peter 1:8 "For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the [[a]full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)."(AMP) "So don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can't see what's right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books." (The Message) Many a time so called 'good' christians, particularly catholics think that it is sufficient to practice devotion to Jesus and to our Blessed Mother and to the saints. This is good in itself. But mere devotion and formal prayers are not sufficient. This devotion and love for God should produce fruits by the grace of God.Devotion should lead to a strong faith, and faith should be evidenced by our developing good character and this in turn by relying on God's grace should produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives. These 'fruits' otherwise known as christian qualities or christlikeness will not only ensure eternal life but would also equip one to lead a victorious and successful life in this world.Faith is a gift of God and faith comes from hearing the Word of God.Faith becomes strengthened and real when we become 'doers' of the Word of God.Therefore reading the Bible and praying sincerely is a very important first step. The next step is acting on the faith that comes from reading the Word of God.This is how the saints came close to God and were made powerful by God.This should help us to understand why so many christians particularly catholics lead a miserable existence in this world.God wants us His children to be blessed and successful in this life also. itfhrp khjk; 27k; jpfjp

Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain." So Ahab went up to eat and drink, while Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, crouched down to the earth, and put his head between his knees. "Climb up and look out to sea," he directed his servant, who went up and looked, but reported, "There is nothing." Seven times he said, "Go, look again!" And the seventh time the youth reported, "There is a cloud as small as a man's hand rising from the sea." Elijah said, "Go and say to Ahab, 'Harness up and leave the mountain before the rain stops you.'" In a trice the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy rain fell. Ahab mounted his chariot and made for Jezreel. But the hand of the LORD was on Elijah, who girded up his clothing and ran before Ahab as far as the approaches to Jezreel. Responsorial Psalm R. (2a) It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. You have visited the land and watered it; greatly have you enriched it. God's watercourses are filled; you have prepared the grain. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. Thus have you prepared the land: drenching its furrows, breaking up its clods, Softening it with showers, blessing its yield. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. You have crowned the year with your bounty, and your paths overflow with a rich harvest; The untilled meadows overflow with it, and rejoicing clothes the hills. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. Gospel Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny." |

WORSHIP GOD AND BE BLESSED
WORSHIP GOD TRULY AND BE BLESSED Exodus 23:25 "You must serve only the Lord your God. If you do, I[a] will bless you with food and water, and I will protect you from illness."(NLT) "But you—you serve your God and he'll bless your food and your water. I'll get rid of the sickness among you; there won't be any miscarriages nor barren women in your land. I'll make sure you live full and complete lives." (The Message) We should serve the Lord wholeheartedly.Just attending Sunday Mass is not enough. We should work for the coming of God's kingdom sincerely throughout our lives. Only then, the above promise of God will be fulfilled in our life.It is because we are mostly pre-occupied with worldly things and not having God's kingdom and His glory foremost in our minds daily, many of us christians are not blessed. We should blame ourselves and not God for this sorry state of affairs. So let us love God and be focussed on His kingdom first, then all worldly blessings will follow. itfhrp khjk; 26k; jpfjp

GO FOR THE BEST MEDICINE
BEST MEDICINE TO MAKE YOU WHOLE AND WELL AGAIN Even doctors who lose all hopes depend on this medicine to be healed
BY HIS STRIPES- Sis. Evangeline Paul Dhinakaran
You have to live a life of love by giving yourself as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God because it is told in the Bible, "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma" (Ephesians 5:1, 2). Lord Jesus Christ loved us and gave His life as fragrant incense to the heavenly Father. That is why we are healed by His stripes (Isaiah 53:5). How great is His love for us! |

Ahab sent to all the children of Israel and had the prophets assemble on Mount Carmel.
Elijah appealed to all the people and said, "How long will you straddle the issue? If the LORD is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him." The people, however, did not answer him. So Elijah said to the people, "I am the only surviving prophet of the LORD, and there are four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal. Give us two young bulls. Let them choose one, cut it into pieces, and place it on the wood, but start no fire. I shall prepare the other and place it on the wood, but shall start no fire. You shall call on your gods, and I will call on the LORD. The God who answers with fire is God." All the people answered, "Agreed!"
Elijah then said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one young bull and prepare it first, for there are more of you. Call upon your gods, but do not start the fire." Taking the young bull that was turned over to them, they prepared it and called on Baal from morning to noon, saying, "Answer us, Baal!" But there was no sound, and no one answering. And they hopped around the altar they had prepared. When it was noon, Elijah taunted them: "Call louder, for he is a god and may be meditating, or may have retired, or may be on a journey. Perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened." They called out louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until blood gushed over them. Noon passed and they remained in a prophetic state until the time for offering sacrifice. But there was not a sound; no one answered, and no one was listening. Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come here to me." When the people had done so, he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been destroyed. He took twelve stones, for the number of tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the LORD had said, "Your name shall be Israel." He built an altar in honor of the LORD with the stones, and made a trench around the altar large enough for two measures of grain. When he had arranged the wood, he cut up the young bull and laid it on the wood. "Fill four jars with water," he said, "and pour it over the burnt offering and over the wood." "Do it again," he said, and they did it again. "Do it a third time," he said, and they did it a third time. The water flowed around the altar, and the trench was filled with the water.
At the time for offering sacrifice, the prophet Elijah came forward and said, "LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things by your command. Answer me, LORD! Answer me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God and that you have brought them back to their senses." The LORD's fire came down and consumed the burnt offering, wood, stones, and dust, and it lapped up the water in the trench. Seeing this, all the people fell prostrate and said, "The LORD is God! The LORD is God!" Responsorial Psalm R. (1b) Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge; I say to the LORD, "My Lord are you." R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. They multiply their sorrows who court other gods. Blood libations to them I will not pour out, nor will I take their names upon my lips. R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. O LORD, my allotted portion and cup, you it is who hold fast my lot. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever. R. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope. Gospel Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven." |
