RESPOND TO GOD'S VOICEStella Dhinakaran
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
Dearly beloved, the Lord assures us lovingly: "Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you" (Zechariah 2:10). He tells us: “My child! I know all your burdens. Don’t be needlessly dejected and dismayed that none could chase away your sorrow. When I so attractively clothe the grass of the field which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won’t I give you all that I need? Why are you needlessly anxious? All that you should do is this. Come unto me. I will grant you rest, both for your body and spirit.”
Let us lay all our problems at the feet of God. This is what Hannah did. She had a grave problem in her life which none could solve. Her womb had been closed. In today’s society, many such people spend several years in tears and anguish. But the Lord calls every such person: “I will grant you rest. Follow me. Cling fast to Me. Nothing is too hard for Me! From now on I will bless you.”
The Lord says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). But how many have responded to that call? It is so easy and pleasant to cling to God. But it appears to be difficult for many for they should avoid doing things displeasing to the Lord and keep themselves spotless and pure. This is a stumbling block to many. For once they accept Lord Jesus as the Saviour, they cannot follow the ways of the world as they like. As a result, they put off following the Lord to their old age and slight receiving the rest which He gives the youth. On the other hand, what does the Lord say? “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1).
A husband and wife with their two sons were living happily. That lady worked in a hospital where she suddenly developed an intimacy with a doctor who came to work there. This damaged their family life considerably. Her heart hardened to the extent of her living apart from her husband and children. In that pitiable state, in fellowship with some children of God, the husband sought the Lord and held fast to Him.
Days passed by. That doctor discarded this lady and got attached to another. It was only then that the misled woman realized her sin and repented, in tears, for her conduct. Her humble and compassionate husband accepted her with a divine love and forbearance. The Lord also forgave her. The broken home was rebuilt and became filled with divine restfulness and peace. It became a family of comfort that brought many others to the rest and peacefulness that God alone could give.
Dear friend, beware of being enticed by those who may speak to you honeyed words and caught in their clutches to suffer irrecoverably in sin and shame. At the beginning of this year, the Lord waits with blessings in His hand. He has promised to do everything so neatly for us. All that He desires is that we should surrender our lives to Him. If only we so resolve today, He will fill our lives with His blessings all through this year.
Prayer: Loving Lord Jesus,
You are my Creator and I belong to You. I exist to worship and serve You. Help me to remember You in the days of my youth to escape the temptations of the devil. I desire to grow in the knowledge of your love. I resolve to surrender my life to You and live for your glory. Come and live in me according to your promise and fill me with the blessings which You have in store for me.
In Your matchless name I pray.
Amen. ----
