DAILY MEDITATIONS # 18, Wednesday , 14.12.11
Luke 7:19-23
"And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me." Luke 7:23
The above verse reads as .. " And happy is the man who never loses his faith in me " in the New Testament in Modern English by J.B.Phillips translation and the Bible in Basic English renders the same verse as .." And a blessing will be on him who has no doubts about me."
Our faith in God many a time is shaken when we face severe difficulties in life one after the another and that too in quick succession. And this feeling gets a little intensified when during those times we have been really trying hard to live a life pleasing to God. Or may be when we witness so much of suffering taking place around us and those responsible for it living a life of ease and respectability, we wonder whether God is still alive.
Sometimes people refuse to believe in Jesus as Savior because they find it absurd for a God to suffer punishment for wicked people and ultimately die on the cross. They consider it an act of foolishness.
Jesus calls upon us to continue to believe in Him and He as the omnipotent God will take all our troubles upon Himself.. A simple and a strong faith is what pleases God. Even today we see Jesus working miracles among us and Jesus replies compassionately to all those who have genuine doubts about Him by saying to John's disciples,
"Go and tell John what you have seen and heard:
the blind regain their sight,
the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
the poor have the good news proclaimed to them." as prophesied about Him in Is.29:81-19; 35:5-6; and 61:1
