A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:

As we approach the end of the liturgical year, the Church directs us to readings regarding death and the End Times. Today's reading discusses the destruction of Jerusalem and the coming of the Son of Man.

The apostles and followers of Christ were real people with concerns and questions that we still have today. They had questions about heaven and death. Christ, in predicting the fall of Jerusalem, mentioned that because the people of Jerusalem did not accept Him and His message, Jerusalem would fall. The apostles could relate to Jerusalem, but did not yet know about the future for Christ as we do now.

Centuries later, we still wonder about the timing of the Second Coming of Christ, but for all of us living, the time of most significance is our own time of death, our own judgment day. The message Christ gave regarding the fall of Jerusalem can be applied to us on a personal level.

Do we accept Christ and His message?

Do our lives really reflect His teachings on a daily basis?
