MATHEW 6:1-6, 16-18
ON CHARITY ---- "When you help someone out, do it quietly and unobtrusively.That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out."
ON PRAYER ---- "Find a quiet, secluded place and just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage in the presence of God. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense His grace."
ON FASTING ---- "When you practice self-discipline to better concentrate on God don't make a show of it. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly."
God hates outward show. He looks only into the condition of our heart.
Ashes reminds us of our nothingness before God. We are called upon by God to repent and mourn for our sins in "sackcloth and ashes" inwardly, by practicing humility, ,charity, prayer and fasting as above and be reconciled to God through His Son and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
