FIRST WEEK OF LENT ....... MONDAY
MATHEW 25:31-46
What does God really want from us ? In the Old Testament he has commanded us to love him above all things and to love our neighbor. God loves us above all things and that is the reason he did not hesitate to give his only Son on the Cross for us even though we were his enemies and undeserving of his love. In the New Testament Jesus has restated the commandment as "Love one another as I have loved you". It is not possible for weak human beings as we are to love others as Christ loves us. To love the unloved and the unlovable goes beyond human will power. But our Christian God wants us to love in this fashion only.... "Be holy as I am holy" and for this reason Jesus poured out his life on the Cross and gives those who ask in prayer, his power, strength and grace to love others in a divine way. After all, our lenten prayers, fasting, and self-sacrifice should transform us into another Christ for the needy, homeless, unloved, despised and may be unlovable members of our society. Let us first begin the efforts from the home front. It is difficult but not impossible by God's grace. This is the only standard by which we are allowed entry into heaven. It is by the 'fruits of the Holy Spirit' ("But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." Galatians 5:22) that we who are undeserving of God's love can love the "least of our brethren" the way Christ loves us.
God Bless
