TODAY'S WORD OF BLESSING

GOD WILL MAKE YOU GREAT

Evangeline Paul Dhinakaran

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.    (Psalm 23:6)

The DhinakaransDavid extols the Lord saying, “You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great” (Psalm 18:35). He adds, “Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalm 23:6).

Quite often we hear people saying, “Come to Lord Jesus and accept Him. Then He will bless you and fill you with great joy.” It is not like that. The moment we accept Lord Jesus, everything will not change. If the Lord exalts us immediately after we accept Him, then we will tend to forget Him. That is why the Lord guides us just like a shepherd guides His sheep. King David says, “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not be in want” (Psalm 23:1).

The Bible states, “See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction” (Isaiah 48:10). According to the above mentioned Scripture verse, when we walk through the path of affliction, God will be with us. He will exalt us in order to glorify His name. His loving kindness will certainly make us great.

Again David says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil” (Psalm 23:4). When we go through the path of affliction, sometimes we may feel that we are in darkness. But nothing will harm us (Luke 10:19). Lord Jesus Himself has promised, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isaiah 43:2).

When the enemies rose up against David, he boldly said, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident” (Psalm 27:3). In the same way, we also should be bold to face our problems. When we boldly confess that the Lord is with us, no evil power or enemy will be able to touch us.

David’s own son rose up against him in order to capture his kingdom. He had to flee for his life, weeping and on bare foot (II Samuel 15:30). Moreover, Saul, the king of that nation was also chasing him and he had to hide himself in a cave. Even in that situation he said, “The Lord is my light and my salvation. I will not be afraid of any one.”

It is the loving kindness of God which made David great. The Lord exalted him in this world. He ruled over all Israel forty years (I Chronicles 29:26, 27). He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honour (I Chronicles 29:28). The Lord did not stop with that. Because of him, He blessed the entire nation. The dwelling place of David is called even today as “The City of David.” Even Lord Jesus Christ was born as a descendant of David and that is why He was called as the Son of David. What a great honour!

While Lord Jesus sojourned on this earth, He performed countless miracles. People were so amazed that they exclaimed, “Could this be the Son of David?” They did not know him as Jesus. Instead, they knew the name of David. Even the blind Bartemaeus cried out, “Jesus, Son of David have mercy on me” (Luke 18:38; Mark 10:47). The Lord granted him perfect eyesight.

Dearly beloved, the Lord who turned the ordinary shepherd David into a king, will be with us throughout this year and His loving kindness will certainly make us great.

Prayer:

Loving Lord Jesus,

You are my light and salvation. I will fear no evil. May your divine presence be with me wherever I go. Guide me just like a shepherd guides his sheep. May your mighty hand sustain me through difficult times. Protect me from evil powers. Help me to attain victory in your name. Exalt me through your loving kindness. May your name be glorified and exalted in all that I do.

In Your matchless name I pray.

Amen.
