RETURN TO THE LORDStella Dhinakaran
Sarah was the wife of the devout Abraham. Since she was not blessed with a child, she was going through intense agony. In her anxiety to get a child, she took a decision without seeking the guidance of God.
On the other hand the Bible says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5,6; Psalm 37:5). It adds, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isaiah 30:21). Therefore, we have to completely depend on God for everything.
At critical junctures when we do something according to our own desire, normally it would end up in a confusion. This is what happened to Sarah also. She gave Hagar to Abraham to be his wife and she bore a child for him. When Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. On account of that, Sarah had to go through agony and finally she chased Hagar out of the house.
Hagar was wandering in the desert without knowing what to do. It was in that critical condition the angel of the Lord found her in the desert. Since our God is a God of love (I John 4: 8,16), He Himself sought after Hagar when she was lonely in the desert. The angel of the Lord advised Hagar, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her. That is what the Lord wants you to do.”
Although Hagar forgot the love of God towards her, the Lord never forsook her. Instead, He revealed His love for her in that desert. Only then Hagar realized the greatness of God’s love and declared, “You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13). She surrendered her life once again into His hands and began to fulfill His will in her life.
Dearly beloved, we should not forget the love of our loving Saviour who offered His own life for us on the Cross. Remembering our loving God who is the personification of love, let us forsake worldly pleasures and come back to Him. He is willing to accept us with open arms. Let us unite ourselves with Him in this New Year and receive His abundant blessings.
Prayer: Loving Lord Jesus,
Your love is incomparable. You are the Lord who never forgets us. I feel far away from You. I am like a sheep who has strayed away from its shepherd. I seek to restore my relationship with You. I long to come back to You. I sincerely repent in my heart and ask for your forgiveness. Have compassion on me and cleanse me from my sins through your blood. Accept me once again into your fold and bless me.
In Your matchless name I pray.
Amen. ----
