DAILY MEDITATIONS  # 21, Saturday 17.12.11

Mathew 1:1-17

" Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Of  her was born Jesus who is called the Christ. "          Mt. 1:16

All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet ---( Isa. 7:14 )
Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth
a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel ( Immanuel means ' God with us ' )    Mt. 1:22-23

The sceptre shall never depart from Judah,
or the mace from between his legs,
While tribute is brought to him,
He receives the people's homage.    Gen. 49:10

The birth of Jesus was foretold much earlier by God the Father to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden after they sinned. God in his infinite wisdom and love even before the creation of the world arranged a redeemer for us.
Sin separates us from God but Christ reconciles us to Him by his precious Blood. The Babe was born to die and Mother Mary knew about it and pondered silently in her heart. She did not understand God's ways but  trustingly co-operated with His will. She could see the  the dark shadow of  the cross over her just begotten  infant son. Perhaps Mary's thoughts were the same as that of Abraham when he was about to sacrifice his only son in obedience to God's command. God so loved the world that He gave up his only son for us.
Christmas reminds us of God's immense love for us. This is the Good News we are to share with others by our good deeds.

God Bless.
