Daily Meditations # 11 Wednesday 7.12.11
Jesus said to the crowds:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Mathew 11:28-30

A "Yoke" means --- a bar or frame of wood by which two oxen are joined at the heads or necks for working together. To get an inexperienced ox used to the yoke, the farmer puts the ox which is to be trained along with an ox already trained for it to learn easily from the more experienced one.
Spiritually also when we surrender to Jesus in child like faith we are yoked together with Him ( God ) and He teaches us in all humility and humbleness how to overcome the difficulties we are likely to face when we begin to live according to His commands. Moreover since He is yoked together with us Jesus shares our burden or even bears all of it alone when the burden becomes too much for us to bear. With Jesus beside us ,the burden becomes light and our hearts are filled with joy and peace..... that is the kind of 'rest' we will enjoy when we begin to walk along with Jesus. He is like a loving father who gently teaches his baby to walk by firmly holding the child's hand and encouraging him whenever he stumbles or falls.How much more caring and gentle is our God who loves us infinitely more ! The power of Jesus is always within us to help us in all our needs. Never walk alone, walk with Jesus !
