DAILY MEDITATIONS  #35, Saturday, 31.12.11

1 John 2:18-21

But you have the anointing that comes from the Holy One,
and you all have knowledge.

John 1:1-18

But to those who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God, 
to those who believe in his name, 
who were born not by natural generation 
nor by human choice nor by a man's decision 
but of God.

From his fullness we have all received,
grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses, 
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God.
The only-begotten Son, God, who is at the Father's side, 
has revealed him.

Finally the year 2011 has come to a close. We thank the Lord for all the blessings he has showered upon us and for the strength he has provided to overcome difficulties and troubles. We also thank him for his immense love and faithfulness during all those times he remained with us when we were down and out;when people failed to understand us ,it was the Good Lord who truly understood and consoled us. It was Jesus who encouraged us to get up once more and face the world fearlessly whenever we stumbled and fell into the muck.He washed us clean with his love and kept holding our feeble hands till the end.To such a great loving God we humbly bow down and worship.

The Gospel reading pointedly says that to all those who believed in his Son Jesus Christ, God gave the power to become children of God. This is the greatest gift God has given us through his only begotten son Jesus Christ.We have received God's power to become his children by faith and God wants us to exercise in faith this spiritual power he has bestowed upon us so that  our lives become transformed for healing this hurting world.This  'power ' we receive and exercise through the Holy Spirit abiding in us. When this vital fact sinks deeply into our minds then all our New Year resolutions will become meaningful and successful. When we become children of God  we are born-again in the spirit and this birth takes place  "not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God."  Hence we enter the New Year with hearts full of hope and joy.

Let this New Year 2012  for each one of us be a blessed year with all our dreams fulfilled through the grace and Spirit of God.
