DAILY MEDITATIONS # 34, Friday 30.12.11

Feast of the Holy Family

Luke 2:39-40

When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions
of the law of the Lord,
they returned to Galilee,
to their own town of Nazareth.
The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;
and the favor of God was upon him.

Jesus Christ was born an incarnation of God. While on earth he was fully divine and fully human. Mary his mother and Joseph his foster father brought up Jesus with love and care according to the precepts of the Bible. Jesus from his early age imbibed from his parents a healthy fear of God and learnt to walk in God's ways and that is why it is recorded in the Gospel that "The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;

and the favor of God was upon him." Jesus in his human nature was humble and lived under the control of his earthly mother and guardian father.

The grace of God richly dwelt in the Holy Family because they were devout and God-fearing. It is the grace and favor of God that gifts us children and it is the same divine grace together with parental responsibility and prayers that makes the child grow strong in body ,mind and soul.

The Holy Family of Jesus,Mary and Joseph is the role model for every Christian family.
