DAILY MEDITATIONS # 26, Thursday 22.12.11
Hannah, his ( Samuel's ) mother, approached Eli and said:
"Pardon, my lord!
As you live, my lord,
I am the woman who stood near you here, praying to the LORD.
I prayed for this child, and the LORD granted my request.
Now I, in turn, give him to the LORD;
as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD."
She left Samuel there.

1Samuel 1:24-28
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
Luke 1: 46-56
Hannah was barren for a long time and she became the object of scorn before her husband's second wife who bore many children. Hannah was very much loved by her husband but all his love could not fill the void in Hannah's life. Finally Hannah approached God in her utter emptiness and sought His blessings for a child.
So also Mother Mary glorifies God because her patient dependence on God was rewarded at the appropriate time. Though Mary was virtuous she never counted her virtue as reason enough for God to answer her prayer. God answers the prayers of the humble who come before Him with empty hands and a heart filled with love and an expectant faith.
May all our needs and desires be fulfilled this season when we approach the DIVINE INFANT with the same attitude of Hannah and the virgin Mary.
God Bless.
