FOURTH WEEK OF LENT......... WEDNESDAY 06.05.11

RANDOM REFLECTIONS

FOURTH WEEK OF LENT ......... WEDNESDAY, 06.05.11

JOHN 5:17-30    AS THE FATHER RAISES THE DEAD AND GIVES THEM LIFE, SO THE SON GIVES LIFE TO THOSE HE CHOOSES.

Jesus makes this discourse to the Jews soon after healing the cripple at the the Sheep Pool on a Sabbath day. When Jesus claims that he is equal to God the Father, the Jews are naturally incensed that a Sabbath breaker should make such a blasphemous claim. If it was not for the grace of God, we  also would have reacted in a  similar manner. In John's Gospel Jesus is progressively insisting to the Jews that he is in fact the  " I AM " who appeared to Moses in the burning bush. Jesus as God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. He is the Author, Sustainer and Giver of both this Earthly Life and Eternal Life. He is also the Supreme Judge of all life.
It is easy for us to accept Jesus as God now, but do we accept him as the only God ? In token of having accepted him as the only God do we love and obey him ? We have so many idols in our heart. Are we not tempted to enjoy  "a little of both" the worlds ?  Loving God while enjoying the sinful pleasures of this world ? Do we put our faith in the Jesus of the Gospels or in the Jesus who is made to adjust to our easy life-styles ? We should never forget that God out of his immense love has chosen us to be his adopted children by shedding his precious blood on the cross. Only when we connect God's infinite love for each of us and His intense agony on the cross  for each of us can we experience the richness of Christ's love in our hearts. This love is not experienced by human willing but by the grace of God. And God because of his grace has chosen us to be his special children after forgiving us of all our sins through the death of his own beloved Son Jesus Christ.

"See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know him." 1John 3:1

"Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan." Ephesians 1:11

God Bless
