SECOND WEEK OF LENT ......... WEDNESDAY
MATHEW 20:17-28 .......THEY WILL CONDEMN HIM TO DEATH
Jesus indeed was the Messiah but was not speaking about establishing an earthly kingdom. He spoke about the kingdom of God that would hold sway over the lives and hearts of all those who believed in him as redeemer and God. On his Second coming he will come as a victorious king to rule the earth. The values of the kingdom of God were at variance with the values of an earthly kingdom.Even those who are spiritually inclined nurse secret ambitions to become famous and popular as star rated TV Evangelists or miracle workers. At the other end we may aspire to become popular and gain recognition for whatever gifts God has given us. Or we may jockey for positions of power by hook or by crook in our work place. Our aim should be to serve only and popularity or fame may come or may not come. Anything that carries the taint of self-glory or self-promotion in our home or office comes from pride and is not in keeping with a servant attitude. We should posses the humble and self-effacing attitude of John the Baptist when He said concerning Jesus in John 3:30 "He must increase in importance, while I must decrease in importance" Let us esteem all others as better than us in the eyes of God.
